Ellen’s face makes this.

I’m sorry, but I have huge issues with Rihanna.

She’s a terrible role model. All she sings about or puts across to an audience is sex. And not even the feelings and relationship side of sex. I mean the worst side of it. The side that demeans it and that doesn’t really mean anything. I’d hate to have kids and to be picking them up from school or having breakfast in the morning and to have her awful filth pollute the radio. I hate to think of how many children asked their parents what S&M stood for or what it is that these boys were supposed to be ‘giving to her hard’. All it’s saying to them is that all you should be looking for in a boyfriend/girlfriend is sex when anyone with any kind of sense knows it is not the only thing involved in relationships with other people.

Yes, I am a girl and I am by no means a feminist but I really do think her songs are demeaning to women. Girls will grow up getting the impression that all boys want from them is sex and boys will expect girls to always be up for it. And then we wonder why kids are growing up too quickly and having sex and maybe even getting pregnant or contracting diseases and infections at earlier and earlier ages. This particular argument, I think, opens up a whole new can of worms surrounding TV, film, publications and other mediums whose regulations regarding sexual discussions before the watershed are becoming more lax. I don’t agree that songs with lyrics like Rihanna’s (I do recognise that she is not the only culprit when it comes to this) should be played on the radio or on television before the watershed when there are children around to absorb them and either understand them entirely and think that it’s OK to talk like that or misinterpret them same as I don’t agree that 50 Shades of Grey, for example, should be allowed to be sold to anyone under 16. It’s think it’s the same thing.

How anyone is supposed to respect her as a person or as an artist when all we ever hear from her is how she’s looking for a ‘big boy’ to ‘get it up’ or going on a family show like Ellen and talking about her vagina or whatever is beyond me and it really worries me that she’s become so popular off the back of this.

When there are artists out there like Beyoncé or Lady Gaga (although I am not a Gaga fan for my own reasons) who are making it a mission to empower women and let them know that they have what it takes to become beautiful people with the world at their feet (as Beyoncé does say, girls run the world) I think it’s a shame that there is twice as much popular music that, either through its lyrics or videos, is giving the opposite message when it is such an influential and universal thing that can and does have the opportunity to speak to huge masses of people. To tell those people that sex is all that they have to talk about and is all that matters is such a waste.

Not only am I worried about kids and how inappropriate it is for them to listen to but I know I don’t want to hear it. It makes me feel uncomfortable and it’s not entertaining to me. No matter how ‘catchy’ some of these songs are.

And, you know what they say, if you’re talking about it then you’re not doing it - as this gif suggests - so all I really want is for her to go out there and have all the sex she wants with whoever she wants however she wants so she can stop telling me about all the things that aren’t actually happening. More than anything in music I love honesty and songs about things and emotions that the artist has actually experienced and I resent that she’s lying to me.

(That last paragraph may be a bit of a push. I don’t care. I don’t like her and I’m not above exaggerating to make my point.)

Want to feel ridiculously old? This came out 16 years ago today.

To this day, whenever I do a brief, bold HA HA HA HA chuckle I want to follow it up with YOOOO, I TELL YOU WHAT I WANT WHAT I REALLY REALLY WANT.

Hercules is my favourite Disney film.

This song is on my Happy playlist.

I sing it in the shower most days. I think I’m getting quite good. That’s what 14 years of practice does for you.

I was actually setting the table for tea this evening singing Phil’s song when he agrees to take on Hercules.

God, I love it.

Reading nook in a built-in cabinet! How wonderful to curl up in here on a yucky day…or just to hide with a good  book or a laptop. And no one would be the wiser. :)

Incredible!

I’ll pay good money to the first person to provide me with a book nook wardrobe. Window and additional shelves is preferred. As is a cushioned bottom. If it’s long enough to lay down in I’ll tip you in cupcakes.

Will Smith’s father actually left him. This wasn’t entirely scripted. His character was just supposed to shrug off his dad leaving again and he starts to but then Will goes off script. That whole speech is coming entirely from him. The hug at the end is also genuine, actor to actor not character to character.

This is my favourite moment from Fresh Prince. I cry every time.

And now I know it’s actually a genuine moment my heart is bleeding.

This is heart-breaking.
Even more so because everybody has a case where it’s true. Sometimes more than one.
The world can be horrible.
